SUMMER GETAWAY EVENT

It is that time of year where the end of school is coming at me like a freight train and school schedules seem to be speeding up before coming to a screeching halt. It stresses me out. To combat this I decided to have an India Hicks Get Together at my home. Bare feet, a few lovely friends and some mid-day prosecco is all a girl needs.

I'm going to share a few snaps from the party and extend a virtual invitation to you to shop the Get TogetherThe link will be open for a few more days. Take a look around!  I'll describe what you see below and I encourage you to travel with a little India Hicks spring in your step this summer.

Great weekender bags, packable tote bags, beautiful new jewelry. The other thing I find a summer essential besides my beloved white tee is being stocked with hostess gifts. Summer is the perfect time for last minute bbq's and such. Always good to have a couple of goodies in your closet for the hosts in your life.

You can shop my summer getaway event link here. Or click on direct links to individual items listed under each image.

everybody's favorite, the Eleuthera tote and uber-useful Beetle Bags
add a Junkanoo tassel and go

new to the collection, the Treasure boxes and No Hassle Tassel necklaces
collection favorites pictured are the Agra Tassel, Flat Stanley pouch and Indi Pendants (you need to purchase the Indi ring too)

My new favorite, the  Riviera collection with soft duffles, totes, baby Riviera bags, wash bags, and gorgeous hand made baskets. Here are a few links to get your started

Now that you are packed, here is a list of great host/hostess gifts to throw in your Riviera Basket

The square box on the right of the table is a gift box filled with a Hand Wash and Hand Lotion, or you can buy them individually, a few listed below. The Casuarina is my personal fav and the other scents are lovely too.

Here is a link to another gift box in the English Rose  scent which includes other goodies besides the hand wash and lotion.  Stash a couple of these in your closet and tie a sweet summer ribbon around it for the perfect gift.

A few other great ideas:

Taking off with the perfect weekender bag and having a few hostess gifts at the ready has never been easier.  Happy trails.

IF CANVAS INTERIORS WAS A HOTEL

I stumbled upon images of this hotel on AD and immediately fell in love. If Canvas Interiors was a hotel, this would be it. The 1 Hotel + Residences in South Beach.

New York Design firm Meyer Davis transformed the old Gansevoort hotel in to this understated and truly eco-conscious oasis. Starwood Hotel Group created the new brand 1 Hotels, developed by Barry Sternlicht,  the creative force behind the W Hotels and St. Regis hotel brands. The idea of taking a concept from a germ of an idea to a full blown brand statement like this one is something that I truly get excited by. Beyond a brand, this hotel group philosophically believes in doing things differently in order to preserve our natural surroundings.  Read more about that here

Canvas Interiors was that germ of an idea and to see something like this hotel gets my creative juices flowing even more. It is so exciting to see passion for an idea come to life.  After working in advertising for so long and producing work that comes and goes - it is really awesome to make an idea come to life. And stay. Bricks and mortar, a place people can come to gather. A place that reflects a lifestyle. So. Fun.

This is inspiring and gets my creative wheels turning. Now if only I could find a 70's condo to gut and re-do. And perhaps open a Canvas Interiors in South Beach? Hmmmm... now there is the germ of an idea.

OUTSTANDING IT WAS

For the last few years Outstanding in the Field has been on my radar. This was the first year we attended and after experiencing both the concept and the food we are most certainly keeping an eye on dates for their next event in Florida.

Held at Lake Meadow Naturals farm, the Florida leg of the Outstanding tour brought gorgeous cool weather and a fantastic meal.

Founded in 1999 by Jim Denevan, Outstanding has traveled across the country and back partnering with local farmers and chefs to bring local fare to the table.  Set and served family style, the endless one long table makes a statement. Togetherness, interacting with new people, sharing a platter of food that connects you directly to the farm.

As day turns in to dusk turns in to night you can feel the pleasure and care that has gone in to preparing every course. It is a lovely event and I highly recommend you check out the website to see if there is an event near you in 2015.

HARBOUR ISLAND FAVORITES: CHAPTER 1

This year's trip to Harbour Island was a whirlwind of activity including stopping in to a few old favorites and discovering a couple of new ones.

Dinner at the Dunmore was absolutely delicious. Of course Mr. K. and I get a little nostalgic when we are there as we remember our I Do's. After being sappy for a minute we enjoyed a delicious meal.

The Landing was as always, a cozy and comforting stop for a drink and a good sit-down with friends in the bar. I decided at 9:30pm as they were closing the kitchen that I could not leave with out eating the grilled lobster and they happily made it. Which I happily devoured sitting at said bar.

Da Vine Wine Merchants is a new wine bar and store designed beautifully with grasscloth wallpaper and stunning wood everywhere. Expertly merchandised by Linda Griffin of The Sugar Mill fame it is most impressive. Cozy and inviting, stop in here for a glass of wine or a few bottles to go. We did both. More than once.

The expertise of Captain Bob (GM) Linda Griffin (Design/Merchandising) Alexander and Jennifer Alexiou (IT/Research & Design) Paul King (Buyer) and Rita Miller (Photography/Sommelier) have come together nicely. A perfect mix of casual and elegant, it is an ideal spot for a cold glass of something after a beach day. An impressive choice of wine, champagne and artisanal spirits means there is something for everyone. And we loved the friendly staff.  :)

Bahamas Coffee Roasters was a nice new surprise. Locally roasted coffee, organic ingredients, great vibe and soon to come cold pressed juice.  We had a delicious lunch and a nice big outdoor area makes a good stop for either coffee in the morning or an afternoon bite. And what I believe to be the first 'food truck' on the island ... the mobile Daiquiri bar was a treat.

The lovely ladies at Queen Conch made lunch a special adventure for our kids. Our two youngest guests (age 6) sat at the bar and watched them prepare food. When we left the kids told us the ladies had made them their 'security guards'.  Fun memories for our littles. A big new covered deck made it all the more fabulous. I love watching this place succeed and thrive over the years.

The Blue Rooster, Pink Sands hotel boutique and Miss Mae's are always a pleasure. I always find a little something at one, two or all 3 of these stores.

I'll be back soon with a little more on this special place and then I'll stop. Until next year.

RAN AWAY FROM HOME

We are back from Harbour Island - laundry and groceries and work in full swing. While I catch my breath, here are a few scenes from last week. It was an amazing trip as always. This one was made all the more sweet by some truly lovely new friends. Oh, and some mischievous ones too. My phone spent a girls night out on the town (without me). It saw things. It took pictures of things. It was slightly naughty.  Note to self: use passcode lock on phone.

I'll be back tomorrow with a few new places, old favorites and some more pictures.

BEACH LIFE IN BRAZIL

This gorgeous beach hotel in Brazil caught my eye in the latest mini-issue of est magazine. Designed by the creative director of fashion brand Diesel, this space is soft and welcoming and light.  There are 10 separate casas, each one a little different from the next. I think I'd pick Seu Pedrinho.

Check out more here on the hotel website - it looks so interesting. Raw, rustic, a little imperfect. Kind of how I would build my someday beach house.

sourced

I have been playing around with issuu for a while. It is a self publishing tool where we publish our Canvas Interiors catalog. It is a refreshing place to visit on the web waves if you are looking for something new to stimulate your creative juices.  While poking around I found this:

Its a lovely guide to my former home. Of course it warmed my heart to see familiar shots of the city but it was also fun to see new shops/restaurants that have opened since I moved.
If you are planning a trip to San Francisco, check out 'Sourced'.

Well organized, beautiful photography, just enough editorial and a few recipes as well.
It is a great read.

Headed west...

Hello and happy Monday. Over the weekend I traveled west to Palm Springs to attend the first ever ...

I am excited to get back to my favorite Palm Springs hotel, the Korakia
Take a look around... its pretty breathtaking and I can't wait to tell you more about the experience.

Be sure to tune in tomorrow...
I'll be sharing a fabulous blog that you will love.

After that, I am going to take time to live in the moment and enjoy these next few days without blogging too much. I may pop in here and there with some photos but the purpose of this retreat is for me to recharge, refocus and refresh.  I look forward to telling you more about what these amazing Firestone sisters have started with these retreats. They are really an inspiring duo and have assembled an amazing group of women.  Not to mention the setting... truly one magical place.

I hope you have a lovely week and I'll be back soon.

school house rocks

A little virtual trip to Park City Utah today...

I came upon a little article about the Washington School House last spring and was excited to discover more about it.  Built in 1889, this Park City Utah landmark has been transformed into a luxury hotel. I stored the info in my files for a more ski-appropriate time of year and I'm thinking this is that time. I saw this image today on pinterest and it sent me into my 'draft' files to finish this post.

I just revisited the website and am still as blown away by the whole idea of the place as I was last March. The images speak for themselves. Inspired design using luxurious fabrics, vintage pieces and most of all... restraint.  Everything is so well curated I can't stop looking at it. Three words come to mind: Simple.  Luxurious.  Creative.

The creative team behind this project knows what they are doing.
Right down to the photography and the tone of the brand.

Look at the little bench in the image both above (end of the bed) and below (up by the railing)... this is a lofted one bedroom suite. Sweet.

imagine how many little feet walked up and down these stairs

This hotel is on my must-visit list.

Check out the website and story here.  There are a few vintage pictures and a brief history of the school which is always interesting.

My hat is off to this creative team.
Unless of course I am in Park City at the Washington School House in the winter.
Then my hat will be on, my skis over my shoulder.

Deep Dive

I am finding with extra time at home I am becoming more of a shopping sleuth. I have shopped on Amazon forever, but never really for 'fa...
