The last few days have been a whirlwind of appointments and commitments and a travelling Mr. K which makes for busy times chez K.  After the little K's were in bed last night I needed a quiet respit. So the first place I turned was to KINFOLK magazine. Always a pleasure. If you haven't checked it out you should.  It is always beautiful and inspiring.

Which is where I found florist Sarah Winward of  'Honey of a Thousand Flowers'

I love the simple beauty of her arrangements. A casual, slightly messy and gorgeous interpretation of the typical 'wedding' flowers. Her work is refreshingly simple yet stunning. If you are planning a summer wedding you will find lots of inspiration here.  If you are planning a backyard dinner party you will no doubt be inspired by these images.  I know I am...  

Beautiful.

This was just what I needed to look at last night.

 And by the light of day, looking at these images again they are even more impressive and inspiring. 

I'm headed to Whole Foods to buy some fresh flowers.  

spotlight: Kara Rosenlund

I went on a little impromptu pinterest journey and ended up finding a wonderful blog and website from Australia.  I thought I would share it with you today for a little sense of adventure. Lets go to Australia shall we?

I'm guessing you may have seen these pins...

They are from the uber-talented Kara Rosenlund. Kara is a photographer by trade and has expanded her career to stylist, buyer and seller of vintage wares.  Her eye is well trained and whether stepping infront of the camera to style an interior, or behind the camera to shoot her life's little moments... is clearly a win/win for us.  

Its hard to know where to begin with Kara's talents.  Step inside Kara's home life on her blog where she posts recipes and delicious photographs of things like flourless chocolate cake.  

...or pictures of the strawberry peach crumble she made over an open fire in her backyard. 

...or check out a recent styling job she did 

...or sign up for one of her 'vignette' classes and learn how she puts together still life moments

But the thing that has me most in awe of Kara is this fabulous idea: 

She travels around Australia in her lovingly restored 1956 Franklin Caravan and sells vintage wares for the home. Kind of a rolling flea market. First of all, what fun. Secondly, she has an amazing eye for photography and styling so just imagine what she finds at flea markets and curates.

This image alone is amazing... looks like a Kate Spade ad.

I could spend more time trying to explain to you all the cool things Kara does.  But instead, take a trip to Australia and get lost for a few moments in Kara's world.

I only wish she could drive Frankie stateside.

lighten up

Today I am going to get you inspired to shake off the chills with some images of beautiful beach retreats.  Small details can work big miracles to switch the feeling of your interiors to light and airy.  I think you must know by now that I am a big fan of slipcovers. And white. And sisal. If you have checked out Canvas Interiors and our FB page  you can see the method to my madness.

So here are a few images to jump-start your summer thinking.

Just looking at these images makes me happy. This type of living lightens my mood. When I was little growing up in Toronto, I wrote a poem about wishing I was a bird so I could fly away in winter to live in the sunshine. 20 years in California and then on to Florida with a detour once a year to Harbour Island. Yup. Got that covered. My inner voice was guiding me in 1st grade.

Now, there are two clues in these images about a fabulous and fun post I have prepared for this Thursday.  It will include, yes, a giveaway of something so cool I want to enter.  But alas, that would not be fair so I'll leave it to you!

delightful restaurant design

I love sharing things I find along the way.  Today's post all started on pinterest with an image of a beach deck. A few clicks down the pinterest path and somehow I ended up at this delicious restaurant design via the blog delight by design which lead me to Milk and Honey Home.  It is amazing how fast a pinterest find can lead you on a visual journey.

Vintage collected meets well curated and gives this space subtle tone and texture. The banquet gives it just the right amount of fancy. Lovely vibe don't you think?

In reading back through Milk and Honey's blog posts I see that they had a clear concept and achieved it. Results like this are always inspiring and it doesn't hurt to have what sounds like a nice client who has a vision and good taste. 

The custom tables were built by Lamon Luther. I just spent 1/2 an hour on the website and am in awe. The story of how this company came to be is worth checking out when you have a quiet moment.  I will let you know, you will probably shed a good healthy tear if you watch 'our story'  -  I did... smiling at the amazingly touching story.

Over the last 6 months I have found images of one person in particular whose street style I love.  When I look through tumblr and pinterest I am really not focused on anything other than enjoying the visual ride.  And then it dawned on me... this girl who keeps showing up in my INSPIRE / DESIRE collages is Zina.  Today I share with you Zina's blog,

From ladylike to leather (paired with converse which of course I love) to casual boyfriends, Zina creates looks that inspire me to run to my closet and repurpose things for a fresh vibe.  She credits all items with shopping sources from Zara to Chanel. Proving you don't need head to toe Chanel to be fashionable... you need a little inspiration from blogs like Zina's.  

Her tone is lovely, she writes a little bit here and there and shares images of stylish details.
