grey matter

There is something about grey that I love. It is both soft and steely. Cozy and dramatic. If this is your first visit to the blog, I will tell you that I do love things that have a dual nature. I am you see, a Gemini. (The balanced kind, not the crazy kind right Mr. K?) 

Here is why I like grey:  

Its neutral

Its simple

Its classic

..which makes it a style staple in my closet

wrap up in layers

a grey blazer adds structure to a soft floaty shirt

basic grey sweater acts as the favorite go-to 'sweatshirt' 

with cozy socks to boot (sorry, couldn't help myself)

channel a romantic moment 

at the cabin - soft and unstructured

in the city - a little sparkle

simply divine

For the holidays I will be recycling one if not two grey dresses from years past.

When putting together content for a post on fashion, my searches always turn up one person again and again.  Emmanuelle Alt, ever so stylish editor in chief of Vogue Paris.  She exemplifies the concept of starting with a simple canvas. Basics turn into the coolest outfit ever on her.  She puts things together in such an effortless way and delivers a look that is timeless, a  tad edgy and just plain cool.

So this Monday as you are staring at your closet wondering what to wear to work or to drop off the kids and run errands,  think 'Emmanuelle'.  Start with the basics and add a little Alt-ness.

slightly obsessed: Emerson Fry

A few weeks ago I went to the Emerson Fry website to see if there was a hint of her fall collection. Too early, no hint.  Then late last week on my way around the web waves I decided to stop back in and voila... there it was.  Later that day I got an email announcing the new fall collection.  I then hopped on pinterest and the Emerson Fry images were already flying from board to board.  Well folks, she's done it again.

Look at this beautiful interpretation of the fall trends.  Everything is delicious.

I love how she takes the basics, strips them down and rebuilds them with just the right amount of edge. If you had seen me this weekend you would have seen one thing: a maxi skirt.  It is by far the most comfortable thing I can imagine.  I apologize in advance for the repetitive wear it will get this summer.  It is my 'go to' feel comfortable staple.  I tend to do that... just so you know.  A few things become staples (remember my early-90's Keds with suit and white T-shirt look? Or my mid-90's overalls on Friday look? - you know who you are friends).    Well this summer is all about the maxi skirt.

The good news is, not only can you wear it with a summer tank, but into fall pair it with biker jacket and presto chang-o.

slightly obsessed part 2 - EmersonMade...a house

Yesterday I brought you the clothes, today here is the house.

The backstory:  Emerson and her husband are childhood friends from New Hampshire.  They lived in NYC for 10 years and moved back to New Hampshire where they found and renovated a 19th century farmhouse. It had been used as a hostel and was a complete mess when they bought it.  By gutting the inside they made the home light and welcoming, even building a fireplace near the dining area for cozy dinners.

This dynamic duo has created a living space that reflects their brand. 

Simple, well curated, well edited and just plain cool.
