style crush: Blake Lively

I just had to share this dress today.  That's all. Just this dress on this Mrs. Reynolds. Worn to the 80th anniversary party for the Chanel fine jewelry collection 'Bijoux de Diamantes'.

Really, it is absolutely gorgeous and that's all there is I could possibly say. So I'll keep it short today and let you dream of holiday dresses... that's where my head is after looking at this.

Silver. Dress. Done.

Flared and Fun: Peplum Jackets for Fall

Fashion is all about having fun and expressing your personal style and attitude. It gives everyone the opportunity to get creative, embrace their girly side, and look their best. Fall fashions are especially great, because the new looks are sophisticated and sleek while still being playful. Autumn designs help ease us into warmer clothes and give us a wonderful transition into the tailored look of the colder weather months.

One of the hottest looks for this fall is the ultra-feminine peplum silhouette. Peplum is a ruffle or lacy bit that accents the waist. We love it because this silhouette is so unique and looks classic and modern at the very same time! The great part about peplum is that the flattering cut helps create and define that ever sought after hourglass shape. The voluminous ruffles catch the eye and really five the outfit some fun and fashion forward flavor. An especially easy way to embrace this trend for autumn is to try a peplum adorned jacket or blazer.

Peplum jackets add a touch of sophistication and femininity to any ensemble. They are a great choice to wear at school or the office when the weather starts to get a bit chilly, and they offer a glamorous yet simple way dress up your look for a night out with the girls. Peplum jackets are so versatile; they can transition well from daytime to evening looks without any fuss.

Because peplum is flared and flouncy, pair your jacket with more streamlined items of clothing. Think clean-cut trousers or streamlined skirts. Layer your peplum jacket over skinny jeans and a simple printed t-shirt for a polished, yet relaxed look. Complete the outfit with some bright low closed toe pump or other comfy shoes  for an extra splash of attitude!

If you are looking for a more glamorous way to wear a peplum jacket during this fall, look for fabrics that scream luxury. Nobody can go wrong with a velvet or satin peplum blazer. Navy blues, maroons, rusty reds, and plums are especially good colors for a fall jacket and will really pop if layered over a deep charcoal pencil skirt or sheath dress.  Wear some layered necklaces and some sparkly chandelier earrings for even more glitz and glam. Add a pair of tights and some fabulous women's shoes like your favorite high-heeled bootie, and just like that, you are ready to rock it!

And of course a few images to inspire you

all I want to do: is buy Sheryl Crow's house

Today's imaginary real estate purchase is Sheryl Crow's home in the Hollywood Hills. It boasts 3 houses set on 11 acres and has hiking trails, a gorgeous pool and endless views. The main 4 bedroom house is Spanish Revival (my all time favorite) built in 1924 with original Spanish tiles and beamed ceilings. Also on the property is a 3 bedroom Craftsman home built in 1909, and a 2 bedroom cottage built in 1885.

In my imagination, a family started in 1885 with the cottage and as their wealth increased they built the Craftsman and finally the main house in 1924. I am slightly obsessed with this property and would love to know more of its history.

A quick tour of the grounds and each of the 3 houses:

the view from the pool doesn't disappoint

Now step inside the main house...

Fantasy:  Buy this house site unseen, pack up and move to the Hollywood Hills,
jump in the pool and take a long deep breath.

Ahhhhh.

I highly encourage you to look at the MLS listing and listen to the music as the slideshow plays. I just did it twice. There are many more images to see including the inside of the Craftsman and Cottage. Clearly Sheryl has an eye for history and has been to a few flea markets.

Girl after my own heart. Maybe she'd cut me a deal?

Incase you are wondering, Ms. Crow is asking: $15,950,000

Reese's Ojai getaway

Every time I see images of Reese Witherspoon's Ojai home I take a deep breath. There is something about it that makes me want to relax. I have long loved the Spanish Southern California architectural vibe and spent many a weekend driving from LA to Santa Barbara and Ojai to get out of the city.  This month's Elle Decor gives us another tour of this historic property in the September issue.

Designed in 1923 by Wallace Neff, the home still houses original Spanish tiles, exposed beams and iron works that were forged in a foundry on the property back in the '20's.  Reese enlisted the help of friend and interior designer Kristen Buckingham to give the home an updated and kid-friendly look.  Antiques mixed with modern upholstery and use of subtle color all work perfectly together. The home mixes just the right touches of history, updated comfort and whimsy.

Over the years the home has been featured in various mags (Vogue, House Beautiful) from Kathryn Ireland's days as owner.

Here are a few older images of the grounds...

Robert Pattinson is said to be mending his broken heart here.
I think he picked the right spot.

House of Gwyneth

Last fall, Veranda magazine unveiled the 'House of Windsor', a spectacular 8,000 sq. foot Georgian masterpiece headed up by Windsor Smith and decorated by Windsor and 9 other designers.  A designer show house with the coolest overall outcome I have seen in a while.  So cool in fact that Gwyneth (Paltrow) and Chris (Martin) decided to buy it.

Here are some images from the home.  It is full of intimate spaces, cozy colors and interesting textures.  Add to that an eclectic mix of furniture and all the pieces work together to make an incredibly warm space.  I can picture Gwyneth in the kitchen whipping up something yummy for her family.  My guess is she'll redecorate a few of the rooms as some of them are 'concept house' over-the-top. My other guess is she'll leave the dressing room as is - check out the bathtub!

Truly the only way to experience this home short of getting a dinner invite from Gwennie is to watch this Veranda home tour.  Its amazing.

I could spend hours on the virtual home tour
pretending I am walking from room to room
with a cup of tea in my hand,
my favorite LA light streaming through the windows.
I think Gwennie will love it.
