CANVASSTYLE ON THE HUNT

I have been on the hunt for the perfect black summer wedge.  Sounds simple enough right?  I don't do heels well. I do TOMS and Converse well. So when I need a little height I have to go for a wedge. I have always loved a good espadrille. However finding a black one that looks refined enough to dress up but casual enough to dress down has proven challenging.

I have collected some that I like here... I must warn you some of these are rather expensive (Burberry, Lanvin... ) however I collected them none-the-less.  I assembled both espadrilles and black wedges. Some of these are dressier than others but they all share one thing in common. Refined.

After much (too much) searching I think I have settled on this one:

These will work with a FBD (Floaty Black Dress) or rolled up boyfriends. Done and done.

totally random

Hello and hope you had a lovely weekend. Today I thought I would try something new. Just a few random thoughts on things that caught my eye over the weekend.

Swedish style blogger Elin Kling designs a collection for Marciano.  Yes, that Marciano as in Guess.  But this is not the stuffed-bustier-pouty-lips Guess of yesteryear. This girl has serious style and it is a really interesting collection.

I am intrigued by the T-strap thing (these from jcrew)
could be fun to try for a little something different

Havaianas boots... I know - we all love the Hunters but these are fun (and less expensive).

And possibly the best news I learned all weekend is that three fabulous UK brands are now housed under one roof and available in the US.

You can find oasis, coast London and warehouse all together on andotherbrands.com  I am seriously excited about this!  You will find a large selection of really fun and affordable goodies - especially fun for those holiday parties.

I will collect more totally random things as the week goes on and share them next Monday.
Maybe a new tradition?

brogues

This fall I am coveting the man-style oxford.  I realize they have been having a fashion moment now for a couple of years but I just haven't been ready.

For years I wore regulation-issue black oxfords with my school uniform and it has taken me a long time to be able to think of the black oxford as 'fashion'.

However, last year I bought a pair of black brogues and dipped my toe in the oxford water again. I wore them once or twice, and then defaulted to my riding boots and Converse.  Well guess what?  I'm ready!  I'm dusting them off this fall and wearing them. A lot. And to ease the transition I think I will look for a cognac or light brown pair and wear those first.

With boyfriends, skinnies and a few things in between,
I am excited to dust off the brogues!

Thanks for coming on the fall fashion tour with me this week.

Now back to the beach.

so pumped

I must say, I live in flats.  Converse and riding boots are my go-to in the FLA winter and sandals in the summer.  Mixed in with flip flops and the occasional wedge heel that about sums up my footwear.

I now find myself strangely attracted to the black pointy toe pump.

So much so that I think I must have a pair ASAP.  The thought makes my little toes curl up with fear, but I am determined to find a comfy pair.

Leave it to one of my favs, Emerson Fry to make a super cool version - check out the heel.
And yes, the first run is sold out.

UPDATE : 2 hours after I posted this, I got an email from EF saying the shoes are in!

love affair

So do you ever get in a fashion trance and have one 'go-to' piece each season?  I certainly do.  I wouldn't call it a rut, I would call it a love affair.  So here are the object of my affection sandals this summer...

I have worn these with everything from jeans to maxi dresses and yesterday I searched and searched to find the same pair to stash in the closet for when these wear out.  Because that day will come soon. I think I got these at the Neiman Marcus outlet on extra-super-duper-sale.  I wish I had bought a second pair that day.

a few more that have caught my eye this summer...

Tory keeps it simple on this shoe
even though I am not a big 'logo-as-design' fan, these are spare

These are so major.
Yes, Ms. Zoe has created the pair I covet and yes, they are sold out
in my size.

I wonder if people bought two at a time?

summer whites inspired by...

Here are a few inspirational images for adding some fresh summer whites to your closet.  A few items that I will be searching for will be a lace top, white denim pencil skirt, creamy silk tank, and floaty white maxi dress.  Of course all worn in the real world with flat sandals.  Perhaps on a night out I'll bust out the wedges with the white skirt and tank top.

Images 1, 2 and 3 are  my starting points...

1.

I love the loose fit of this top and the hair is breezy light....

for an affordable alternative I love Madewell...

2.

This outfit is cool, confident and simple.

a splurge...  3.1 Phillip Lim

and a great deal from Blank Denim on shopbop

3.

This is one of my favorite images/shoots of all time...
Dree Hemingway for Numero Magazine #121 last spring

I will do a BCBG version with no sleeves for the FLA weather
and will take it to Harbour Island and walk in the water. Just 'cause.

Here are a few sandals to boot (getting a little punchy sorry)...

the Cyrus from K. Jacques on shopbop

the Beach Babe from Rebecca Minkoff on shopbop

and my current sandal obsession...the Dolce Vita Archer.

I hope you have enjoyed the 'inspiration image' shopping trip.  We'll do it again soon!

flat out

A few fashion finds and desires from the weekend.
All of which go with my absolute favorite summer staple... the flat sandal.

As for adding some spring clothes to the mix, I am intrigued by a couple of ideas - one of them being flowers.  So I picked up this little frock.

I have the perfect flat sandals to go with it that look exactly like the gold ones above.

On another note, I am really feeling black ankle length cigarette pants with a little flat sandal so I am on the hunt for the pants.  I think the little SE sandals below will be perfect.  These pants with a slouchy cream tank and chunky bracelet would work for me. The little touch of sparkle on the SE sandal gives a lighter note to a serious black pant.

Next up on the wish list is a floaty knee length skirt like the one below.  I am liking the gladiator sandal to complete the 'wandering down a romantic street in the south of France' feeling.  It grounds the skirt from being too ballet, or girlie.

And I have no idea where these came from but if you do please tell me because I am now obsessed with finding them!

Are you spring shopping yet?  It really is a breath of fresh air when you get to rotate the closet!

Deep Dive

I am finding with extra time at home I am becoming more of a shopping sleuth. I have shopped on Amazon forever, but never really for 'fa...
