CANVASSTYLE STAPLE: TOMS

Today's post is a quick summary of the approach to clothes here at canvasstyle.  Basics, easy, comfort. Starting with these TOMS that found their way home with me yesterday. Oh my am I happy with these.

They are so simple, cool, comfortable that I think I might have to get another pair/color.

Here is how I would style them.

A. Trusty boyfriend jeans and white silk tee for an easy laid back style.

B. Black sweater and black skinny crops for a little more attitude (I am lusting after these  black motos).

The best part of this style staple approach? Put the black sweater with the boyfriends and the white silk tee with the black skinny motos.  New outfits.  Presto!

style staple: white shirt

As anyone who knows me will attest, I show up just about everywhere dressed in some form of white shirt.  A little cotton blouse, a soft white t, a floaty silk version for a dressy night out. It never fails that I am getting dressed in 3 minutes or less and my lineup of trusty skinny jeans and white tops do the trick. The mood is set by shoes and accessories...add Converse, heels, flip flops, riding boots, oxfords or wedges depending on the outting.  Delicate gold bracelets or an armful of beads and Chan Luu.  Whatever the occasion...

...the white shirt is my:

So if you are in need of a few easy links to stock up on my favorite style staple, here you go...

grey matter

There is something about grey that I love. It is both soft and steely. Cozy and dramatic. If this is your first visit to the blog, I will tell you that I do love things that have a dual nature. I am you see, a Gemini. (The balanced kind, not the crazy kind right Mr. K?)

Here is why I like grey:

Its neutral
Its simple
Its classic

..which makes it a style staple in my closet

wrap up in layers

a grey blazer adds structure to a soft floaty shirt

basic grey sweater acts as the favorite go-to 'sweatshirt'
with cozy socks to boot (sorry, couldn't help myself)

channel a romantic moment

at the cabin - soft and unstructured

in the city - a little sparkle

simply divine

For the holidays I will be recycling one if not two grey dresses from years past.

Dreamy or sparkly grey in all of its moods
 is
simply beautiful

in the navy

One of my favorite style staples is the color navy.  It is a great alternative to black and works with crisp white in the summer and cozy camel in the fall/winter.  I have collected quite a few navy pieces this summer and find myself reaching for them frequently.

Here are some navy moments...all of them effortless, timeless and with a touch of creativity.  Whether a silk shirt, sneaker or skirt it all feels quite comfy-chic.  My definition of a style staple is "throw it on with your eyes closed and be effortlessly happy and chic all at the same time".

And as for the Supergas I think I might just need to revisit them.
I had a white pair long ago (think 90's)... feeling the need for 2012 navy.

My navy Converse
would welcome a new sneaker in the rotation.
