WEDDING

I have been thinking about weddings lately. Tis the season and I always love looking at dresses, decor, flowers and trends. Mr. K and I got hitched on a beach surrounded by conch shells and loved ones 9 years ago today so it seemed like the right day to take a trip down memory lane.

Here is my dress which 9 years later I still love. Check out Reva Mivasagar for more. Truly unique dresses, traditional with a twist.

DOUBLE DENIM

I have been noticing a fresh take on denim-on-denim. It is something I have avoided in the past, but lately the looks I am seeing are making me want to embrace the vibe. Like, today. I see myself as going for the lighter version, top row middle image.

How about you? Check out these cool street style girls and get inspired.

The great thing about trying this look is that you probably already have these pieces in your closet and can just presto... put a new look together! Use these images for ideas, pull out an old belt, blazer or new pair of heels.  Mix it up with your favorite boyfriend jeans, add a touch of pattern or sparkle.

Just incase you need the top - you cannot go wrong with any of these...

RUNNING RUNNING RUNNING

Do you ever feel like you are moving at the speed of light and still it is not quite fast enough? That is how I am feeling this week so please pardon my lack of posts.  But I must pop in and show you these. At least if I am running, it is in really cute new TOMS.

I love the palm trees and the overall color. A little cream, black and grey.  Just right.

RACE TO YES UPDATE

Hello and thanks for stopping by today. Yesterday we got some great news in the Race to Yes!

The FDA FINALLY gave guidelines to drug maker #Sarepta in order for them to apply for accelerated approval of a life saving drug for boys with #Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. My nephew Ryan suffers from this fatal disease.

It has been a long journey to get here and those of you who signed the White House Petition and the amazing families who make up the Race to Yes Campaign should be very proud. This Petition, coupled with the persistent campaign mounted by the Race to Yes have directly put pressure on the FDA to act.

What does this mean?  In short it means the drug company #Sarepta has been given the green light by the FDA to proceed with further clinical trials in the near future and are now allowed to apply to the FDA for accelerated approval of the drug. This is hope. This is progress. But we are not done yet. The pressure needs to stay on the FDA until this Race crosses the finish line.

Thank you for tuning in, thank you for caring and signing and sending out good thoughts.

Stay tuned as the Race to Yes continues!

COLLECTIONS

One of the things I love doing is cooking up the Canvas Interiors collections. We have fun putting them together imagining the person who might identify with each place or style we have curated. We have imagined homes in different parts of the world to spark your imagination for your own home.

Today I will take you to Harbour Island which is near and dear to us. Mr. K. and I got hitched there, we visit yearly and feel rather happy when we do. We took S and XS last summer and are doing the same this summer. They have not stopped talking about it. It affected them just the way I hoped it would. There is a spirit there that speaks to us, and now to our littles. It is an island with an eclectic, understated and creative vibe that takes some time to unfold. Its gentle elegance is very special.

Here are a few pieces from our Harbour Island collection. We define these pieces as relaxed, a touch global, a touch exotic, and a touch elegant. They all meet nicely with a slipcovered sofa or two and a sisal rug

clockwise from upper right: bar cabinet // bed // pillows // dresser // cloud art // ottoman // mirrored tray (with India's book of course) outdoor sofa (works well indoors too)

You can find all of these items on our website and search other collections as well. Hope you have enjoyed the little trip to the Bahamas. Perhaps next week we will go to Belgium?

FULL CIRCLE

Yesterday I became slightly obsessed with finding the perfect midi length full skirt.  I have an image in my head of what I want to wear to a swanky party in May but I can't find it at a price I am willing to bear. So I have devised a plan.  Put it together with two pieces.  A skirt and top.

This is the dress that started my frenzy - it went on sale at Bloomies and promptly sold out. I had it in my cart. It sold out while I was checking out. I called, I online chatted with a Bloomies bot, I tried and tried and tried to secure just one... last... dress. Even at the sale price I thought it was too spendy but I really loved it. Would the universe be in my favor? Nope. But then again, maybe the universe was telling me to spend less.

For this swanky party I am feeling part ballerina part attitude. Fitted corset/bustier on top and circle skirt on the bottom with some killer shoes.  Shouldn't be too hard right?  Try searching 'bustier top' and see what you come up with. A lot of bar maids and other naughty costumes.

Wish me luck on my quest. I put together a few skirts for you (and me) as I continue on this journey of finding something I love, and something that will not cost a fortune. Although I did include some Tibi skirts as they are just too pretty to pass up. One can hope for a sale right?

WHITE LACE

Although this is an older shot (2012 Alexa Chung for Superga) I stumbled over it today and just had to use it. I love the image.

I am feeling my closet calling me to find a breezy little white lace dress. Not too hippie, not too structured either. Cynthia Vincent seems to have my number lately.  The dress below is on my list.

I pulled a few more pieces together and here's what I would do... I would mix a little prep into my step to give a little balance to the vibe.

TOTALLY RANDOM TUESDAY

My home office has been taped up and sealed off for our big painting project. And I just don't love blogging from my ipad...so I'm back today, untaped and at my computer.  I have a few totally random things to share today.

#1. Exterior painting almost done!  Here is the front before (L) and after (R):

We are not all the way done and today is a rainy day so not much progress but... I am oh so joyous about the front! Shutters will go back on in the darker gray trim color you see on the dormers (which aren't quite done yet).

#2. The home of our dear friends the Washburns who own a fabulous furniture store (which happens to house a bar), is the cover story of a new magazine, Interior Appeal. This is their dining room where they host many a fine dinner. The dining chairs are from Canvas Interiors and look perfect in their incredible home. Check out Washburn Imports here. There is always something special happening there.

Congratulations Orange Appeal and Founder Christi Ashby on your new publication, Interior Appeal.

#3. I went to visit a new clothing store in town yesterday. In talking with the sales person I learn that she loves Canvas Interiors and has shopped at the store. I had noticed as I was browsing that they had two chandeliers and a sconce that Canvas Interiors carries. But I didn't put two and two together. In fact the store owner had purchased them from us. I love these random encounters with people who truly enjoy the store and it is always a treat to hear about it and see the pieces mixed in to all kinds of wonderful spaces. Welcome to the neighborhood SusieQ Boutique and thanks for shopping local! I will of course return the favor. Local friends check out the store - great brands like C&C, Amanda Uprichard, and more.

The Cassandra chandelier on the left can be found here, and sadly the one on the right is discontinued. We are looking for something just as beautiful to replace it.

There you have it, a totally random Tuesday.

SPOTLIGHT: PETER BLOCK ARCHITECT

We are gearing up for painting the exterior of our house starting today.  It is currently a gold tone, we are taking the whole palette of the house inside and out to more of a gray/griege feel.  So excited to get this rolling (sorry, couldn't resist the bad pun).

I have been slightly obsessed with this house for a while now. This is very similar to the shape and architectural tone of ours. Peter Block is the architect behind this and many other beautiful homes.

I have blogged about this house before, the amazingly talented Beth Webb has created a gorgeous interior world inside these walls. You can see more of the interiors in Atlanta Homes Magazine or on Beth's site

I dove in to Peter Block's site to get more exterior inspiration and found another home I have blogged about before. I was drawn to the interiors of this Rosemary Beach home without digging in to who the architect was. Clearly I am very drawn to his work and didn't even know it until I dug in to threads of inspiration that all led to him.

I highly recommend spending time on his site and reading about him and what inspires him. It is not very often I get slowed down and lulled into another world and I did on his site. It is very expressive, heartfelt and full of emotion. Truly a pleasure to read and view.

WANDERING

After a huge push for the past 30 days to help my nephew Ryan and The Race to Yes, I felt the need to wander aimlessly at the mall. I find it therapeutic after being home immersed in social media for 30 straight days.  Some might exercise, some might read a book. I however, go to the mall and wander for a couple of hours.

In this particular mall you can browse everything from Jimmy Choo to Forever 21 which is just how I like it. Here's what I ended up wandering around thinking about: how to deconstruct Coachella Festival style for those of us who are not 21.

I wandered in and out of Anthropology, Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 knowing that with a few tweeks this look is something I am loving right now, just not head to toe.

Here is how I would do it: pick one item at a time and make it your own.

pair a kimono with simple black or white basics

Its easy breezy and adds a little something new to my usual uniform.
I am stalking the one on the left...here are more just incase you are feeling a little festival style.

Deep Dive

I am finding with extra time at home I am becoming more of a shopping sleuth. I have shopped on Amazon forever, but never really for 'fa...
