CANVAS INTERIORS: LIGHTENING UP

Its been a while since I wrote about the store so here's a little look at the collages I've been working on for the website.  I am excited about spring and am fully racing toward summer in my head. We like to pile on soft greys and creams during the winter months. Chunky knit throws and cozy grey sectionals are our favorite. But I got an itch to find some sea shells and white things for the website and I thought I would share them here.

Check out the links for product descriptions and pricing.

1: sofa // ottoman // tray     2: finial // metal cabinet     3: nesting table // chair // rug

1.  lamp     2. bed (shown in white leather)     3. vases

I hope you enjoy looking at these and if you are reading from chilly places,
dream a little dream of summer.

And if you are reading from Florida, visit our new Jacksonville location !

SPOTLIGHT: LAUREN NELSON DESIGN

I finally caught up on some good magazine reading this weekend and this image stopped me in my tracks. I love the overall vintage modern vibe, the use of photography as art and for a minute I thought it could absolutely be a friend of mine's dining room in the Presidio. The time change prevented me from calling her and waking her up on a Saturday morning to ask her, so I dug deeper. It is not their dining room but wow it could be. It is in their neighborhood which is interesting.  I love when my eye takes me to a place I recognize in my heart before I even know where it is.

Here are more images from Lauren Nelson's website. As a stylist as well as interior designer her eye is well trained. It is a lovely site full of inspiration and from SF to boot which always makes me smile.

WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY DONE RIGHT

It is my sincere pleasure to introduce you to Thayer Gowdy's new wedding photography site.

Thayer shoots for big brands and national publications and her work is lovely. The interesting thing about Thayer is that as her career has taken off and she achieves great commercial success, she continues to shoot weddings. Trust me when I say, a lot of photographers start out shooting weddings and as they get more successful commercially... never look back.

Just the opposite with Thayer. She has just launched a new wedding photography site and if you are planning a wedding you absolutely have to look at it. Her work is so beautiful. So natural. And I can say from personal experience she is super nice and highly creative. If you are looking for an editorial style to your wedding photos take some time to look through Thayer's new site.  It is simply gorgeous.

The site is well organized which is a huge help when the task of picking a photographer lands amidst all the other planning you are doing for your wedding.  It is organized  by type of wedding (beachy, lush, summery, woodsy) or if you prefer you can view by wedding event. It is so inspiring to look at it makes me want to marry Mr. K all over again. Hmmm... 10 year vow renewal back in Harbour Island? I'm starting to think that is a lovely idea.

Thayer, you available April 2015?

GOLD ACCENTS

Lots of gold is being discussed this week as Olympic athletes compete for it. Here are a few gold bits that are catching my eye lately. I'm including bronze and rose gold too because it all leaves me with the same feeling. Warm.

these are so feminine

this table  from canvas interiors is one of my personal favs

I love these gold drips on a bone china cup and saucer set

I have been playing a lot with hammered gold stacking rings
in between my collected vintage platinum bands

I am slightly obsessed with Tom Dixon candles right now

I do hope you are staying cozy wherever you are.
Maybe a little gold/rosegold/bronze will help.

BEACH LIFE IN BRAZIL

This gorgeous beach hotel in Brazil caught my eye in the latest mini-issue of est magazine. Designed by the creative director of fashion brand Diesel, this space is soft and welcoming and light.  There are 10 separate casas, each one a little different from the next. I think I'd pick Seu Pedrinho.

Check out more here on the hotel website - it looks so interesting. Raw, rustic, a little imperfect. Kind of how I would build my someday beach house.

SLIP ON SNEAKERS

I have been watching slip on sneakers for a while now. I just couldn't do the wedge sneaker thing. I rely on my Converse as you know. But now these slip on sneaks have my attention. They pop up on pinterest, they've been blogged about since last fall and I think I'm slightly obsessed. I had a very enjoyable time doing this post as I got lots of inspiration for my own wardrobe while looking at all these images. I have ordered a leopard pair and they should be arriving this week. I'll keep you posted!

There are many to choose from including the original Vans and the uber expensive Celine version. I am especially drawn to the plaid ones (Celine last year) and found a version here. I included a lot below because I sort of love them all.

CANVASSTYLE FANCY

As you may have guessed, heels are not my go-to footwear. Its fun every now and then to wear them but honestly, they hurt.  However, last night I went to a cocktail party that was a perfect place to get my girly girl on. It was a ladies Valentine cocktail party. Just us girls. Sounds strange but it is one of the parties I look forward to all year.  Fun friends, great food and everyone gets a little dressed up. Its nice to honor that side of our selves.

ABOUT PINK

I live in a household of boys. I love pink. Thankfully Small K (age 8 boy) loves pink too. He asks me to buy him pink shirts. His idol at school wears pink bermuda shorts. This month he wanted a skateboard birthday cake and asked the baker if he could have pink icing at each end of the skateboard. She looked at him sideways and said 'are you sure you want pink?'  I was so proud of my skateboarding cool dude kid who is boy enough to love pink. The baker quickly got my message that this kid is cool and if he wants pink he'll have pink thankyouverymuch.

As for me,  I get it wherever I can.  Beach bags, wallets, blankets, clothes, journals, you name it if it is something I am buying for myself I find a little girly pink.

MINTED

During the holiday or New Years card frenzy you have no doubt looked at minted for their unique and beautifully designed cards.  If you have had a bambino or hosted a baby shower you have probably looked at their special birth announcements and baby shower invites too.

Minted curates beautiful designs from a global community of independent artists. Their philosophy and business model supports and celebrates the independent creatives of the world which is rather cool. I am usually on a focused mission to get the holiday card thing done but when you dig deeper on the site there is a lot to see.

Here are a few things I love about minted that I didn't have the time to really absorb during holiday card frenzy time:

personalizable photo backdrops, banners and other party accessories

We did a photo booth for our multi-family adults/kids New Years Eve party and next year I will definitely be ordering one of these customizable backdrops for 2015. I so wanted to make gold banners  like this for New Years but I am not the most hands on craft person. With that in mind, check out the Valentines party kit.

art prints

Find unique prints and see them in context on a wall, or next to a human being. This is SO helpful. We lived with a giant taped together piece of paper on our dining room wall to help us decide if we wanted one large piece or a gallery wall of smaller collected pieces.  We decided to go for the gallery wall and I will be adding this one to it. Its called Dirty Chevron.

Here are a few more I have my eye on that would mix well with other genres on the dining room gallery wall:

On a philanthropic note, minted supports Every Mother Counts.  A very heartwarming cause founded by Christy Turlington.

All in all minted is a feel good place to spend a little time.
