canvas interiors... thinking about fall yet?

I think I am being tempted by pre-fall fashion right now. Blues and greys and black... these colors are slowly slipping into my mind. I bought a pair of black boots today. It is 94 degrees outside.

It got me thinking about Canvas Interiors and the shift that takes place on the floor around 'back to school' time. And I decided to do a little exercise. Kind of a Canvas Interiors inspire/desire thing.

I shot some pictures in the store the other day, then went to our website and pretended to be shopping. I looked for what I would add to the pictures below to achieve that shift from summer to fall...

In my pretend shopping trip I would add a few chunky throws in cream and grey. Change out tabletop items from shells to things with a tin and metal feel. Switch out pillows to grey's and blues. Add a rich grey and black rug and voila.

This was a fun exercise. Hope you enjoy the little infusion of Canvas interiors 'stuff'.  If you would like to see more you can visit the website here

drifting arrows

I came across this website last week and fell in love with the casual well curated collection.

With a laid back peaceful and simple aesthetic, the website is a lovely little respite from 'overdone'. Pack beach bag, throw in some essentials...

lovely beachy pieces, great prices and well edited

beyond obsessed / Flynn Skye dress

I just had a truly laser-sharp-determined-beyond-obsessed moment over this dress:

image found: here

I had countless browser windows open, Tin Eye searches, Google image searches, pages and pages of 'backless striped maxi dress' searches.  I first saw it on Pinterest and finally traced it to Flynn Skye. And without a doubt without reading a word, I knew this company had to be in LA the minute I looked at the site. Yup - Venice CA.

Phew. Found it.

Wait. Sold out in this pattern. Sugar. ( I really want to swear here but I refrain).

Where else can I find it? Free People - size Large only, shopbop, no go. Finally this morning I find one on Revolve.  But it is a medium, and I need a small. I order it anyways. Wait! I found one! A size Small!  Wooo hooo! So now I have two dresses coming. Anyone local want a size M before I return it?

Needless to say, this is beyond slightly obsessed. I am in to official stalker territory over this dress.

Here are more Flynn Skye dresses including a couple of sources for the one I just stalked.
It is a fun brand with a laid back floaty fresh vibe that I am loving right now.
(and PS the size S is here)

slightly obsessed / inspire desire mash up: cross body bags

I have been on the hunt for a (another actually) cross body bag. It all started with my desire to have hands-free airport travel with the littles this summer. I found a bag I like and promptly downsized my wallet and started using it before the travel.  We have traveled.  We are home.  Have been home for a while. I am still using it.  I love the idea, I love that this accessory is back, and I am slightly obsessed.

Here are some images to INSPIRE...

A little more island time

It is hard to believe our trip to Harbour Island has come and gone... would love to be back there longer next summer. One last collage I've been playing with... Small K and XS K exploring the town, the 'haunted house', a very special necklace from two very special sisters, Small K exploring the world of conch shells.
     Until next year...

(or maybe New Years?... Hmmmm....)

slightly obsessed: Steve Giannetti and Windsor Smith

If you are like me, the minute a magazine of any kind hits my hands I dig in right away. For those of you who read Veranda this is old news from the current issue. I have had a long distance crush on the Giannettis for quite a while. And every time I see a Windsor Smith room I kind of melt a little.

To see a reno / collaboration between Steve Giannetti and Windsor Smith is a fabulous treat.

We live in a fairly traditional in an "English-storybook-kind-of-way" house which I am trying to 'funk up' a bit.  We have a 60" marble top tulip table coming for the dining 'salon' and I am counting the days til it arrives. Overall, I'd like to turn the cream walls more white. We have a very similar (but darker) sofa to the one below in our family room which I would like to slipcover in a lighter linen.

With a few tweaks I think I could get the room feeling like this:

This 'tweak our decor' idea has been in my head for a long while and the image above
made me more determined to make it happen Chez K.

This article has me looking for a 70's fixer upper.
Mr. K as always, thinks I'm slightly nuts.
I like to say, slightly obsessed.

I have been playing around with issuu for a while. It is a self publishing tool where we publish our Canvas Interiors catalog. It is a refreshing place to visit on the web waves if you are looking for something new to stimulate your creative juices.  While poking around I found this:

Its a lovely guide to my former home. Of course it warmed my heart to see familiar shots of the city but it was also fun to see new shops/restaurants that have opened since I moved.
If you are planning a trip to San Francisco, check out 'Sourced'.

Well organized, beautiful photography, just enough editorial and a few recipes as well.
It is a great read.

I have to admit, two of these dresses/coverups have found their way into my closet and I am loving the easy breezy feeling I get when I throw them on.  In fact I think I will be throwing on #5 tonight.

DESIRE...

back to Harbour Island

Hello and happy Monday.  Hope you had a fabulous 4th of July weekend.  We spent the week last week in our 'happy place', Harbour Island.  This summer we took the kids and rented a house. Good friends, good food, and the kids loved every minute of it.

Rather than go on and on about all of my favorite things, you can read about them here,  here, here and here ... I posted quite a bit from the island last year and these are still my favorite stops.

We went to the Dunmore for cocktails and revisited a wedding moment or two which is always nice... and we had a great afternoon 4th of July party at the Coral Sands with the amazing Daddy D who dj'd our wedding.  He is a special soul and radiates joy - a nice treat to see him again.

Counting the days til the next trip.

celebrate!

Happy Independence Day!
Hope you are having a fun filled sunny day.

reading week: smitten studio

I am smitten. This blog is so refreshing and fun to read. I haven't checked in on it in quite some time and I am so happy I did. I wanted to share it with you.

Sarah is a creative director and designer living in California and renovating a cabin in Michigan.  She has recently quit her 9-5 to devote her time and energy to her blog and design life. She has just launched a darling product line called A Sunny Afternoon.  Read about it all here, on

reading week: damsel in dior

I love tuning in to damsel in dior  to see what she has cooked up in the way of outfits, fashion finds, styling tips and even a little video here and there.  A fun fresh read.

ps: the girl on the left is samantha from 'could I have that?' - they are friends and i love her blog too.

So today is kind of a two for one post.
Enjoy these fun friends, and don't be surprised if they inspire a purchase or two!

reading week: modern elevation

This week I am taking a little break from the computer so in the meantime I thought I would share some of my favorite blogs with you.

Today's blog is:

Our friends are in the beginning stages of building a modern home and are documenting their progress.  It is fun to read about the stages of construction and see what is inspiring them as they plan their dream home. If you are going to build, have built or dream of building a house this will be a good one to follow.  If you just love modern design it will be inspiring to see what they curate.
