THIS DRESS

I usually don't talk about celeb fashion and gush about George Clooney but lets just take a moment. George looked dapper and relaxed. And Amal rocked the fashion for her wedding whirlwind.

My favorite...

And while I could never ever pull off something this short, I think she looks smashing albeit half naked in the front. I have always been a sucker for flowers and have found a few floral frocks that I could perhaps pull off.

RAINY DAY MONDAY

Having added furniture to our almost completed addition coupled with the fact that it is a rainy-on-and-off kind of day, I don't want to leave the house. I am so enjoying sitting in our new room and soaking it in.  We just unpacked the furniture yesterday and I couldn't be more excited.  I truly believe not only are we happy but so is the house. I know it sounds crazy but this addition was just begging to be done. We had our first family meal there last night and look forward to many more.

Here is a quick peek at the dining room today:

A few things we've realized/still need to do:

1. Add the sea grass rug
2. Add sconces to the wall facing the tree house (you can see it peeking out in the back)
3. We want to perhaps lower the chandelier but still keep it lofty and keep the view unobstructed. We don't want it hanging traditionally right down over the table but after living with it for a few days we are thinking it could come down a tiny bit more. Still toying with this idea.
4. The room could take a bigger table. We have our eye on one so we will love our Berkshire table until we commit to another in the Canvas Interiors family.

And in the interest of keeping it real here on canvasstyle, here is the behind the scenes:

The yellow tree house is the launching pad for the zip line. We disassembled and are reassembling the brown play structure next to the yellow one and connecting the two for a playhouse 'town home'. I will then paint the new town home a nice warm grey to blend with the house & tree.

Please note the lack of countertops (mini-issue hopefully solved this week) and the big giant dirt pile in the yard. So while I can take pretty pictures of the table I thought I should share the 'undone' nature of things behind the scenes.

LEATHER LEGGINGS DONE RIGHT

My friend D brought up the leather / pleather legging look the other day, asking if any of us had tried it. I for one am game. However... I think you could go wrong pretty quickly so they need to be done well.  Read: classic and not plastic. I probably won't spring for the real deal leather but there are good faux's that aren't to plastic looking so I say why not!  I will pair mine with a chunky knit or a cashmere cardi (see here) and some bad ass boots.  Or my trusty Converse. Maybe heels. Maybe.

SLIGHTLY OBSESSED: THE CARDIGAN

The cardigan has long been a style staple for me. The coat thing was of course a necessity growing up in Toronto. But living in LA, SF and now FL, the cardigan is the perfect layer for these climates. I always carry one in my car no matter the time of year, as frigid air conditioned stores and restaurants are a given here.

Simply put, I cannot go a day without wearing one. And the key to my happiness is cashmere. A whispy tank top and a light weight cashmere cardi for a summer night out. A long sleeved tee and a thick coat-like cardi for a chilly day. Ask any of my friends and they will tell you the one thing they pretty much never see me without is a cashmere cardigan.

With leggings, boyfriend jeans or a dress and a killer pair of boots, the cashmere cardigan is the perfect piece to invest in. I can't tell you how many miles I have trekked in mine. There are few things I will splurge on, and cashmere is one of them. Try one - I promise you will coo with delight when you slip it on.

WHITE = CALM

A whirlwind few days chez K has me reaching for what grounds me and calms my mind (besides wine). Between extracting bats from the attic (wtf really?!) and hiccups with the addition not to mention what looks like a sick kid (XS) I need a little calm. This is why I love white interiors. I find them soothing and comforting. Here I share a few different styles and how to get the look at Canvas Interiors.

SLIGHTLY OBSESSED: COCOON COATS

While the whirl of Spring 2015 Fashion Week continues in London,  I can't help but focus on Fall. I keep trying to get geared up to talk about Spring 2015 and honestly, I can't. There is plenty of time for that but for now my dream in September always turns to a new coat.

I have an internal clock that was set growing up in Toronto and needing a new coat every winter because we had grown out of our old one. No such excuse here. I live in Florida. And I am obsessing over a cocoon coat this season.

Living in certain parts of Florida, this style actually works if you find a lightweight one. We also have trips to chilly climes planned so I'll get to cocoon for real.

There really are chilly nights here where nothing satisfies me more than my over the knee boots, a cozy sweater and this season, a cocoon coat.

SHOP THE LOOK:

Slouchy and oversized, crisp to the knee or sassy short, you can work a number of looks with just one of these coats.  The cocoon coat is a bit of a chameleon don't you think?

SHAZAMMM! THE WALL CAME DOWN

My little home office is tucked away in a separate hideaway from the house which is lovely when the saws and jackhammers are running inside the house. The last couple of days have seen a whirlwind of activity including the temporary wall coming down at the end of the day yesterday. Which has made it slightly difficult to slip away to blog as I've needed to be present for on the fly decisions and oh ya, the kids and their homework.

I'm popping in to my little haven for a quick blog post and then back to the chaos for more decision making and on the fly stuff. Crews are tap dancing around each other today and the energy feels great.

Below are a few before/afters... excuse the random lighting...

L to R:
1.  standing in the new space, facing back in to the kitchen - this gold colored wall was the outside of the house 2.  same view looking at the temporary wall 3. last night at dinner time the temporary wall came down!

L / R
1. inside the house our lovely temporary wall awaits demolition  2.  SHAZAMMM! new space open to the kitchen (ps: new marble island top coming next week)

L to R:
1. in the beginning there was a cozy breakfast nook  2. yesterday there was nothing  3. today there are kitchen cabinets taking the place of the nook because we now have room for a big table. Yipee!

There is still much to do but I can finally see the light. Literally!

AT CANVAS INTERIORS

Sharing some new arrivals today from Canvas Interiors. Can't believe I got that excited about picking out new pillows but I did.  And our new hides and horns are proving quite the popular addition to the mix. We have a blonde hide at home in our dining room so it just seemed fitting to add some to the Canvas Interiors  floor.

The store truly is a reflection of how we live at home. Hopefully that translates to something you can relate to.  A lot of what we love and find organically for our own home ends up in the Canvas Interiors mix.

And... we are headed to our new Winter Park location today to start planning the floor for our upcoming new store.  Stay tuned for more...

before/after:

Fun times Chez K. Oh and the hardwood floor is going in today in our home addition. The temporary wall in our kitchen comes down tomorrow!  Wheeee................construction, plaster dust, contractors, decisions, questions, more decisions... I need to go sit down.

GIMME SHELTER

This is a fantastic idea. A pop-up luxury tent lodging service for events, weddings, parties, you name it. Inspired by the the amazing camping opportunities in California and a dose of summer camp, Shelter Co. provides a luxury camping experience. Real beds, down pillows, cozy blankets. Who wouldn't venture into the wilderness knowing this was waiting for you? Or down the street to your neighbors' backyard?

They provide services for a simple night under the stars or a  fully orchestrated event. They will do location scouting, meal planning, team building activities or set you up in a location of your choice.

Check out their website - since spending time on their site today I am now planning a party somewhere, sometime with this idea in mind. I'll let you know when I figure it out.

PUT IT IN NEUTRAL

When things are swirling around and you are feeling a bit scattered, it is so nice to find a neutral space. Whether it be clothes or home it is the thing that calms my mind. Things Chez K are somewhat nutty with the renovation still underway and a third Canvas Interiors location opening soon (got the keys to the space yesterday, now for a few finishing touches like building out bathrooms and sexy stuff like that).

If it were cooler here today, this is what I would wear... a big soft camel coat to cloak me in calm. Doesn't she look blissed out? Its the coat I swear.

MY LIST

I'm feeling much calmer already.

CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT J. CREW FOR A MINUTE?

I get a ton of emails from a ton of companies announcing their end of season sales and new Fall arrivals.  I breeze through these emails and rarely does anything catch my eye so much that I want to blog about it. I curate my own posts with bits and pieces from all kinds of sources to put my look together here on the blog.

But really, J. Crew just did it all.  Fall looks amazing.

TOTALLY RANDOM TUESDAY

It has been a while since I have done a 'totally random Tuesday' post so I thought I would bring it back. Yesterday I felt like viewing, not creating content. Some days it is good to step back and explore. It re-fueled me and I found some random things to share.

TOTALLY RANDOM TUESDAY:

1.  headboard/fabric combo... cozy and elegant and just enough without being too 'pavillion' like.  Q this one's for you.

2. I love the handmade aspect of paper...check out SUPPLY PAPER CO.

3. I am a sucker for an oversized cozy sweater and love how this looks with heels, boyfriend jeans and clutch.

4. Grey nails have been around for a while but I am just embracing it now and slightly obsessed.

5. found this shutter pic on Supply Paper Co. site and it is pretty and ties in with the grey thing I seem to have going on both with my home and my nails.
