a week of white: SHIRTS

A simple white top of some sort always feels right to me. As most of my friends will attest ...I show up most places in a white T shirt. I will share my current fav in a minute....

In the meantime, here are a few favorite images from slighlty dressy to all the way dressed down.
Packing for a trip?  Pack a white shirt.  Not sure what to wear?  Slip on a white shirt, a big chunky necklace and off you go.

a week of white: INTERIORS

As you have perhaps figured out - I like white.  I like the easy nature of it and you might be thinking "easy with kids - what?"  It really is.  Slipcovers, washable surfaces, a little elbow grease and voila. I could live quite happily in an all white house with splashes of color and texture here and there (one small detail... Mr. K. actually likes color).

And contrary to the opinion that it could be boring, the beauty is it can be anything you want it to be.  Not locked in to one look, you can change the feeling of the space on a whim.  Warm it up with organic wood, crisp it up with apple green pillows. Must be my Gemini nature...

I could go on and on... suffice it to say that white interiors and sunshine
bring me a lightness of being.

a week of white: JEANS

Its official... time to wear white. In honor of the old "you can't wear white before Memorial Day" thing, I thought I would do a week of white on the weblog.  Even though I don't really subscribe to the rule, it is kind of fun to think of it as permission to embrace summer.

Today, the white jean.

My absolute fav white jean right now... leave it to jcrew

and the hot tip - found them at the outlet.

Hope you had a great weekend!

a little summer hideout

For the last couple of weeks I have been collecting these images and feel like doing two things:

1.  Put a teepee in our playroom
2.  Put a teepee in the store

Of course they all think I'm nuts/kidding at the store. But really I'm not.

This is a store in Amsterdam called Sukha...great idea to display pillows and rugs and a cozy nook for littles when they come with their parents to shop.

playroom, library, home office, kids bedoom, beach ... a sunny corner and a few cozies work

we can start with this...

add pillows, a big flokati and soft down comforters
I think I would take a nap in it.

Inspiration

The idea for canvas interiors came very naturally.  The look and feel of the store is very authentic and approachable.  It is not a formula.  It is a reflection of how we feel and how we live.  So in the early concepting stages of the store when we came across images that expressed this feeling - it was a breathless finger pointing moment... 'here, here is what it looks like in my head!"

This is one fo those images...

The eye it takes to exercise restraint is apparent in Briggs Edward Solomon's work.  It is something we try to do every day on the floor of the store.

These images do not need much commentary as I think his style speaks for itself.

warm texture, clean lines, well curated

These images are from the current issue of Veranda Magazine.

His work embodies every ounce of the vision for our store.
Slipcovers yet clean lines.  graphic shapes yet warm wood.
Whimsical touches without being 'cute'.  Light, airy and unfussy.
These images make me happy.

I hope they inspire you too.

the max (i)

If you had seen me this weekend you would have seen one thing: a maxi skirt.  It is by far the most comfortable thing I can imagine.  I apologize in advance for the repetitive wear it will get this summer.  It is my 'go to' feel comfortable staple.  I tend to do that... just so you know.  A few things become staples (remember my early-90's Keds with suit and white T-shirt look? Or my mid-90's overalls on Friday look? - you know who you are friends).    Well this summer is all about the maxi skirt.

The good news is, not only can you wear it with a summer tank, but into fall pair it with biker jacket and presto chang-o.
