CANVASSTYLE SLOUCH

If I had to define my mood these days I would say laid back, unfussy, and I must say, slightly slouchy. I have lived in skinny jeans forever and I have to tell you, caftans and slouchy pants/culottes/palazzo pants are all I can think about wearing right now.

Easy breezy lazy days of summer. Bring it.

CANVAS INTERIORS LATELY

With the Memorial Day weekend ahead I am excited to think of easy breezy summer days and nights. This is how I picture our 'someday beach house'. Until that someday arrives, I get my yayas out at Canvas Interiors dreaming up vibes of summer. Could this be your beach house? Or could you turn your city house in to a permanent summer retreat?

The sectional is modular which is a great option for tailoring the size to your space. And the slipcovers are washable. Slipcovers are key to low stress beach living. Sandy feet? check.  Chocolate ice cream on the fingers? check. Freshly showered kids tucked in on the sofa watching a movie? check.  Mamma has wine? check.

CANVASSTYLE: SLIGHTLY OBSESSED WITH SLIDES

I am slightly obsessed with slides right now.  Popping in today and sharing a whole bunch with you, some of them on sale! Go!

So far these are my favs:

I call these 'easy shoes' when describing shoes that allow my kids to load up in to the car in under 60 seconds. "Put on some easy shoes!" I say.

These are a lovely version of the 'easy shoe'. I am not feeling the whole Birkenstock revival (yet... it may very well happen but I'm not there yet) and these seem like a great version.

CANVASSTYLE CRUSH: URBAN OUTFITTERS

I took a whirlwind trip to my favorite quick fix stores (H & M, F21) and as I was headed out the door (empty handed I might add) I spotted an intriguing new vibe in the Urban Outfitters window display. I have been a fan of this brand since it launched but I must admit as I progressed in years, they seemed to be trending younger.

But there seems to be change in the wind at UO.  Enough of a change to make me stop and check it out. The window displays were open, uncluttered, welcoming and 'still'.  The music playing was mellow and inviting. The clothes were soft and feminine.  I rather liked it. And I rather loved this dress.  So I sort of bought it.

Here are a few more of my picks for summer.  I really like the direction they are headed and hope to see more of it for fall.

JUST BEACHY

I don't know about you but there is something about styling a fun and slightly colorful (yes, I do like a little color in the summer) summer go-to beach wardrobe that gets me giddy. And since this is more like an addendum to my every day basics I feel like the challenge is to do it without breaking the bank.

Here are some fun summer beach ideas I have my eye on. All of them except the bracelets are under $50 (bracelets are $62 but I just had to include them because they are lovely).

And for an extra dose of sunshine ... all under $100

CANVASSTYLE CRUSH: BETH WEBB

From Alys Beach to Costa Rica. Sharing more inspiration today from the uber-talented Beth Webb. She always manages to infuse heart and soul in to everything she does and for me - that is more than decorating. That is creating a space that feels like home.

Hats off Beth! What a beautiful home and great story of the unique development of Las Catalinas. You can find it in Veranda Magazine, on newsstands today, May 12.

Take a mini- tour with Beth here:

GO ASK ALYS

I am a big fan of all things Alys Beach.  Light, white, and Moorish details give this slice of Florida a very different feel. When I finally had the time to look at this stunning home Elle Decor designed by Architect Michael Imber and Interior designer Lynn Myers knew I wanted to share it here.  It is an inspiring look at a different take on a beach house.

Simply gorgeous. The images speak for themselves.

Um. And yes please this:

ISLAND TIME

It is no secret here on this blog that Harbour Island is a special place for Mr. K and I. We got married there 10 years ago and go back yearly.  Why Harbour Island you ask?  I can't explain it. I just knew it was where we needed to wed.  I had never been there, was reading about it from my kitchen table in San Francisco and planned the wedding from afar. The first time I set foot on the island was with my wedding dress in hand 10 days before our wedding. I was calm. Happy. Totally content. Thank goodness Mr. K is easy going and game.

I'm feeling nostalgic since our 10 year anniversary was last week so here is a peek from the pink sand nuptials.

It was only after our wedding that I put two and two together and realized that the lovely India Hicks called Harbour Island her home.

Over time we uncovered threads that made me feel more connected to the island. Kids on the island who went to my tiny private school in Toronto. An old friend from said school owns a home on the island. Did not know that until years after visiting the island and reconnecting with her on good old Facebook. We have met wonderful new friends there who we will see again this summer. Layers of my past and future all coming together on a Bahamian beach.

So it makes sense then, that we circle back years later to offer India Hicks' new lifestyle line in Canvas Interiors.

When we opened Canvas Interiors the first book we stocked was India's Island Life and we peppered the store with Briland shells we have brought home over the years. There is an authentic thread of this island that runs through our history as a couple and a great part of what inspires our Canvas Interiors style. One of our collections is named after Harbour Island and a few pieces in the collection have special names of things we love  there.

Some time ago I reached out to India to see what new business she was teasing us with on Instagram. In March we were delighted to host her at Canvas Interiors for a launch party  of her new India Hicks lifestyle collection.

Today we are hosting an India Hicks Island Escape pop-up-shop in our Winter Park Location and introducing a few new pieces in her collection. We will have the products in-store (only in-store, not on our website) for 2 weeks after each party and then pop up from time to time again when a group of new products are released.  It should be a fun way to have a few parties and we are excited to continue the feeling of creativity and camaraderie that India brought to our lunch.

Here are my personal favorites from the collection:

We just got back from San Francisco (celebrating 10 years of wedded bliss) and I had all of these items with me. The scarf is a divine cozy piece on an airplane, the beetle bag was perfect for all of my cords/headphones/chargers in my carry on, the perfume roller ball made airplane travel smell better and the Love Token reminded Mr. K who's boss. Happy Anniversary honey!

SLIGHTLY OBSESSED: THE MUSCLE TANK

I have a confession to make. I went a tad overboard stocking up on muscle tanks for summer. I just sort of realized it. And I am really happy about it. Just look at all the choices you can make in the morning. Slightly sexy, slightly bad ass (sorry Mom, there really just is no better way to explain it), and still soft and pretty. Kind of a good mix right?
