STATEMENT TEE FOR ME

I just got off the phone with my friend E who is looking for a few fun statement tee's. The message can be as subtle or, well, not so subtle as you wish. Which makes the choice all the more fun. Throw on a fitted skirt, trench coat or blazer and you are out the door in 5 minutes feeling slightly cheeky.

I have found a couple lately that I love, including one that says 'Le Tee Blanc' which pretty much sums up my wardrobe (sadly the tee is sold out).  I wish I had designed that one.

So in the spirit of being your personal shopper, here are a few of my favs from my go-to sites.

Dream   /  Angelino  /  Pure Sugar  /  Flowers

Downtown  /  Coffee  /  Creme  /  Uptown

My favorite? Pure Sugar.  Going in my shopping cart asap.

IT WAS GRAND

We had a very fun and genuinely special opening night for our 3rd Canvas Interiors location in Winter Park FL.  We are so grateful to our good friends and Canvas Interiors staff for the love and excitement that we felt throughout the night.

The store is housed in what was once an old lumberyard. There is history and raw beauty in the building and we strived to convey that with the renovation.  It feels light and loft like and a perfect fit for our brand vision. A little polished, a little undone, and real.

It was a fantastic experience and we are so excited to launch our third location in our own backyard. Thank you friends for making it such a wonderful night.

PONCHO LOVE

Ponchos. Blanket coats.  Not the knitting project of years gone by anymore.  I have two poncho sweater type things that I have had in rotation for a few years but put them away last fall/winter. After seeing this lovely parade of Burberry coolness over the last couple of months I pulled my poncho's out and am rediscovering them.

A perfect layer for transitional temperatures...

Here are a few for your shopping list:

COLLECTIONS AND REFLECTIONS

From fashion week posts to flea markets thats how I roll. This is my collection of white (go figure) flea market pottery that I have been amassing since I lived in LA and got the Rose Bowl Flea Market bug. That would put me at about age 23. No need to do the math but suffice it to say this collection has been with me for a long time.  In fact this image below is from my apartment in SF circa early 2000's.

Bold move - I took the collection to Canvas Interiors to house flowers for our 3rd location's Grand Opening party tonight.  It feels strange not to have my little white vases greeting me at home. Our Manager Joanne says I may never get them back.

Good thing I am getting up at the crack of dawn to go to Rennigers Flea Market Extravaganza the morning after our opening party (!) The timing of all of this is interesting. This collection has never left my nest and now it sits in Canvas Interiors full of flowers. Almost as if the collecting by my younger self was leading to this Canvas Interiors moment.

My passions and creative energy helped me create my nest on a budget when I was just starting out in my 20's in LA.  My current 'wiser' self is still nesting and looking forward to a flea market score of more... you guessed it... white pottery.

The message here: stay true to your style, your creativity and your resourcefulness no matter what the budget.  From a $20 white vase to my beloved white Tee's to now Canvas Interiors, white and light has always been how I express my style. It is fun to look back see my past self informing my future self. Long ago collected pieces sitting in a new venture, our 3rd Canvas Interiors location.

Deep thoughts for a Thursday.

TOP BANANA

New York Fashion week is in full swing and while I check in from time to time, my reality is this: I am sitting at my desk in UGGs, a Gap tee, and jeans.  The most exotic expensive thing on my person right now is my Skinceuticals skincare.

Fashion week is fun to watch but day to day its J. Crew, Gap, Bloomies for jeans - that is my reality. It is for this reason that I was super excited to get a whiff of the new Fall 2015 from Banana Republic. I have a soft spot for Banana from years gone by (we're talking early 2000's). Their flagship store was a block from my office in San Francisco and I spent many a lunch hour skimming their racks 'back in the day'.  But alas, Banana got a bit stale.

I am excited to see what Marissa Webb (former head of womenswear at J. Crew) brings for Banana. On board since last April she is bringing a little edge to the basics. Just my speed.

SLIGHTLY OBSESSED: CROSS BODY BAG

It has been a while since I went on a full-on hunt for something. Last week I did. It was for just the right cross body bag.

I have always loved Botkier and narrowed it down to two choices. The Trigger and the Logan which I then ruminated about for the entire week. Ultimately I picked Logan and am so excited for its arrival.

Dress it up or down, shorts of skinnies.. here are a few more of my favs:

CANVAS INTERIORS WINTER PARK

I love popping in to the store (especially now that our new location is a mile from our house) the day after a delivery truck unloads.  I am headed there now to see what arrived yesterday but in the meantime here are some snaps from recent days.

Our website is shopable and most items are in stock and ready to deliver so if you see something here that strikes your fancy take a look at our website or follow me on instagram on the Canvas Interiors page.

DREAMS

If you have been reading for a while you know I love a good flea market. I grew up cruising around in the back of my parents' Country Squire station wagon stopping at antique stores and barns in the countryside north of Toronto. My sister and I would wander off and explore on our own as my parents browsed. That feeling of exploring, uncovering treasures and imagining the past has never left me.

This brings me to France. I know - big leap but my dream vacation would be to go to France and drive around to the brocantes while basing out of a fabulous old French Chateau. Mr. K would probably call that a nightmare (the brocantes part) but I say dream.

Which brings me to restoring a French Chateau.  Now there's a dream. I would be in absolute heaven with a project like that in my realm.

There are two instagram feeds I want to share with you today. One I just found this morning as the lovely Julie of French_Manoir followed Canvas Interiors' instagram feed and instead of blogging I sat and looked at her images. The other is Chateau Gudanes which I have blogged about before.

Two families, dreaming big and restoring magical homes in France.  They are both from Australia. I have no idea if they know each other and it is totally random that I found both of them but I am living vicariously through them.

GOOD SLOUCH

With the boyfriends comes an opportunity to go overboard in the slouch department. And no one wants a slouchy boyfriend.  I have my 3 go-to pieces that make the look not so sloppy.

Silk blouse, classic breton strip or a basic white tee.  Get the proportion right and getting dressed like Elle McPherson in the morning just became that much easier.  Well one can hope right?

I love the ease and casual vibe of this look. Elle McPherson wears it well. She is my boyfriend icon. She's done it for years, she looks smashing every time.

BOYFRIENDS

I have had many boyfriends over the years. I have been very faithful to my boyfriends.  Ask anyone who knows me, I have been really in to boyfriends for-like-ever. Whether people liked them or not, I loved my boyfriends and still do.

I tend to like mine slightly broken in, not too distressed. Distressed boyfriends are a handful.

Thank goodness Mr. K. likes my boyfriends.
