slightly obsessed: Malgosia Bela

This week has turned in to a bit of a fashion week. Totally going with the flow here and writing what catches my eye when it catches my eye. I don't have a master plan of posts, or a schedule of topics. I just kind of wing it and hope you enjoy the ride.

My latest obsession is this image from the other day's post. It is one of my favorite images of late.

It keeps popping into my head for a couple of reasons.  I love (love love love) the dress. And the energy of the image is so refreshing. So I dug a little deeper and found the whole shoot  here.

Malgosia Bela by photographer Greg Kadel, Vogue Spain July 2011.

In the spirit of holiday fancy-ness I thought I would share these today.

Fantastic photography always stays with me so I had to dig deeper.
I have satisfied my curiosity.  Hope you enjoyed!

spotlight: fashionvibe

Over the last 6 months I have found images of one person in particular whose street style I love.  When I look through tumblr and pinterest I am really not focused on anything other than enjoying the visual ride.  And then it dawned on me... this girl who keeps showing up in my INSPIRE / DESIRE collages is Zina.  Today I share with you Zina's blog,

From ladylike to leather (paired with converse which of course I love) to casual boyfriends, Zina creates looks that inspire me to run to my closet and repurpose things for a fresh vibe.  She credits all items with shopping sources from Zara to Chanel. Proving you don't need head to toe Chanel to be fashionable... you need a little inspiration from blogs like Zina's.

Her tone is lovely, she writes a little bit here and there and shares images of stylish details.

All in all a lovely blog. I do hope you enjoy checking it out.

sparkle and shine

As we welcome the holiday parties my mind is headed in a few directions. Yesterday I started 3 different collages.  Today's is gold and cream.  I have a black one and a silver one in the works. So many choices, so many ways you can add a little sparkle to your evening. From head to toe gold sequins to silky creamy pants and blouse.

Hope this inspires you to find a little sparkle to light up your closet.
Here is a little lookbook with some shopping links
just incase you are in the mood to shop...
in the meantime I do hope you have a lovely day.

cozy beds

After a whirlwind weekend of travel it was so good to be home and in our own beds. Here are some cozies to inspire your winter room.  A knit throw, a touch of fur, a drippy sparkly chandelier... small changes that make a big impact.

Dreamy, restful and inviting.

a word about KINFOLK : food for thought

Today I leave you with some homework over the holiday weekend. Follow this list o' links to discover, if you haven't already, KINFOLK Magazine and what makes it tick. It is truly refreshing.

The idea of gathering with friends. The idea of amazing photography. The idea of a printed magazine. Printed. I am a print junkie and have been since my early teens.  Magazines (the real and good ones) are few and far between these days this is a beautiful one.

So while you are drinking tea, relaxing with family, eating lots of yummy stuff, thread through these  links and enjoy.  Slow down. Take a deep breath. It will take you a while to soak it all in.  And the journey I will send you on from here is worth the time...

Start here:  the interview with Editor-in-Chief Nathan Williams to hear about the heart of the magazine. (Steven Alan's lovely blog)

Then go here to see some beautiful photography (Emmadime's lovely blog.)

Then go here to see more of the photographers (Woodland Photography) who shot that beautiful photography above and below.

Then go here for a glimpse inside Nathan and Katie Williams' lovely world (their blog).

And last but not least, spend some time: here at KINFOLK magazine.

Check out every section. Linger. Look at the 'dinners' section and see if there is one coming to your city.  I can't say enough how much I love this concept and the photography and most importantly the perspective of KINFOLK.

KINFOLK embodies the spirit of gathering, visiting, enjoying meals with friends and family. It reminds us to slow down and enjoy life's quiet moments.

Best of all for me, it takes me back to the pure creativity that still lives and breaths in this digital age.  I am a child of print.  Raised on big chunky magazines, I worked in the print medium for-lets-just-say-ever. Produced photoshoots, managed the people producing the photoshoots and spent many many hours looking at, editing and sourcing beautiful images. In my off hours I waited like a little puppy with my steamy latte on Fillmore St. at the doors of Juicy News for it to open so I could spend an hour buying $50 worth of mags. Every weekend. That was the life. Coffee, UGG boots (yes I don't apologize for wearing them), and Juicy News.  The perfect SF weekend.

I give you that little peek into my SF days because that is what KINFOLK does for me.  Takes me back to a time that I cherish and reminds me that I can still create those moments today.  You still with me?  I hope so. Because this post will take you all weekend to digest and its totally worth it. Much like your Thanksgiving feast.

Enjoy!

INSPIRE // DESIRE: the party

I know we are headed in to Thanksgiving weekend but for those of you feeling the rapid approach of December I thought I would go on the hunt for a few party-ready ideas.

I tracked down the real deal merchant who sells it in ... France.
If you are reading from afar  or willing to pay for stateside shipping, you can check it out here.

Or you can try this Nasty Gal version of the skirt.
I must warn you, it is torturing me to tell you, that it is currently sold out. But it is perfection.
So I had to share and I hope beyond hope that they re-stock it soon.
I am officially obsessed with this skirt.

otherwise there is this BCBG version which is lovely too:

There is something about the drama of this image that had me looking for black ostrich feathers.

I think I would wear them on the bottom, like this dress from Warehouse if you so...

...DESIRE

Well friends, this is only the beginning. I have many more holiday ideas up my sleeve. I have to say it is a tad funny to write these 'fancy' posts while I am wearing my usual uniform of old J Brand jeans with a hole in the knee and a Gap white T.

Until next time...

Hello and happy Monday.  How about we ease into the week with a little peek at some of the things we carry in the store that might perk up your home for the holidays, or make a great gift.

Hope you enjoy what you see!  There are many more product images on our facebook page.
Don't be shy - get in touch if you see something you like.  We ship and are excited to do so!

more loot

We had a great morning last Thursday at canvas interiors.  The ladies of loot jewelry brought new necklaces for our first ever pop-up-shop.  It was relaxed, fun and of course very inspiring. New designs, new treasures, and lots of choices.  The beauty of loot is that everyone found something unique and meaningful.  A bit about Loot:

Each piece of Loot Jewelry is hand-crafted using vintage, up-cycled, reclaimed, and repurposed "treasures,"
many centuries old. We combine these vintage elements with modern findings to make our jewelry collection.

These necklaces are so unique. And as I am finding there is always just one more
I have to have every time I look at the collection.

Thank you Shauna and Day for a great morning!

If you want to get in touch with the ladies of loot jewelry
you can message them on their facebook page here.

Local friends, we will be carrying loot in the store very soon!  Just in time for holiday shopping.

INSPIRE // DESIRE: faux fur

Last winter I was obsessed with finding the perfect cream faux fur coat that doesn't look super faux.  This desire swept through the season right down to scouring the post-season winter sale racks at Bloomies on two separate visits. What if the perfect one existed in a forgotten corner?  Alas, no luck. Now that I feel a chill in the air my faux fever has peaked again.
